Environmental Program
Mission
The WWGCSA is dedicated to helping golf course superintendents in Western Washington ensure the environmental integrity of golf and golf courses through continued environmental education, development of sound environmental principles for its members, and enhancing their image as environmental stewards.
Vision
- The WWGCSA and its members will be leaders in the environmental arena by:
- Identifying and working with members of the golf industry and the environmental community.
- Increasing member involvement in WWGCSA environmental programs.
- Increasing environmental performance on and around the golf course.
- Developing and disseminating Environmental Stewardship Guidelines.
- Adding value to communities by making golf courses environmental laboratories for students.
- Taking positions on environmental issues outside the game of golf and increasing public awareness of these positions.
Objectives
Programs developed as part of the WWGCSA Environmental Program must:
- Educate superintendents.
- Be beneficial for the environment.
- Enhance the image of the superintendent.
- Increase public awareness of the WWGCSA’s environmental program and goals.
- Involve collaborative efforts when possible.
Target Audiences
Components of the WWGCSA Environmental Program should try to educate, inform, or influence:
- Superintendent members and nonmembers
- Regulators/legislators
- Media
- Golfers and club members
- Youth
- Communities
- Allied golf associations
Goals
- To have WWGCSA members participating in all aspects of the Environmental Program.
- Foster the development, distribution, and implementation of standardized Environmental Stewardship Guidelines among WWGCSA members.
- Work collaboratively with OGCSA, IEGCSA, NTA, GCSAA and Audubon International in their golf and environmental initiatives.
- Identify and foster relationships with other associations, organizations, and government agencies.
- Increase recognition of superintendents and the association as environmental stewards.
