Peninsula Golf Club is seeking a full-time, permanent employee to fill the position of Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. The ideal candidate’s qualifications will include; having a valid Washington State Pesticide Applicators License, type Private Commercial or being able to acquire one in a timely fashion, having a valid Washington State Driver’s License and Social Security Card. Additionally, we are looking for a person who can help the course to be the best it can be each day. They must be willing to do the things it takes to bring the golf course to the next level, takes ownership and has pride in work ethic. Knowledge of irrigation, drainage, grounds and greens keeping and being able to run the machinery it takes to do those things. Knowing your way around a shop and having mechanical awareness is a plus. Be able to express their thoughts, feelings and ideas with respect and good humor. Understand and enjoy playing the game of golf. This position reports directly to the Superintendent, who reports to the Board of Directors. The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent. Under the Superintendent's guidance, the Assistant Superintendent will direct and participate in the maintenance of the golf course and practice facilities. The Assistant Superintendent will also play an integral role in leading staff members as well as hiring and training new staff to meet and exceed the expectation level and standards of the Bald Eagle Golf Club. The Assistant Superintendent may serve in the Superintendent's capacity during an absence.

General Responsibilities and Requirements
  1. Inspect golf facility on a daily basis, monitor the conditioning and playability of all 18 holes and practice areas
  2. Delegate and schedule daily responsibilities to maintenance staff with Superintendent
  3. Assist in maintaining inventory and advise Superintendent and Mechanic of any equipment and/or supplies in need to ensure the proper maintenance and efficiency of the operation
  4. Supervise the staff and participate in conducting performance appraisals to ensure the standards are achieved to meet and exceed the expectations of the Bald Eagle Golf Club
  5. Make recommendations to the Superintendent related to the maintenance necessary to meet and exceed the expectation levels of the Bald Eagle Golf Club
  6. Assist in establishing annual operating and capital expenditure budgets and review payroll reports for accuracy and approval
  7. Instruct and train staff in safe equipment use, proper maintenance, and safe operating procedures
  8. Organize and keep accurate records on maintenance procedures, pesticide/fertilizer applications, safety meetings, and staff assignments
  9. Assist in the renovation of the golf course. A working knowledge of course renovation and construction will be considered an asset.
  10. Supervises and participates in the operation/maintenance of pumps, rainbird irrigation system and drainage systems. Troubleshoot, program, repair in coordination with superintendent
  11. Supervises and/or operates the use of pesticides and fertility applications by performing accurate calibration techniques to all equipment and training
  12. Operates with the highest competency all golf course related equipment, including specialty machinery needed to renovate and maintain the golf course
  13. Complies with all of the Bald Eagle Golf Club policies and procedures as set out by the Superintendent and Management team
  • Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management or related field considered an asset
  • Experience as Superintendent, Assistant, 2nd Assistant Superintendent, Foreman with a proven background in a progressive environment
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Computer skills including Microsoft office programs, Rainbird Software, e-mail, internet, social media, staffing software
  • Valid driver’s license and pesticide applicators certificate or capable of attaining within 6 months of employment

Course Operation

Facility is an 18-hole private club established in 1900. Our equipment fleet is a combination of new Toro and John Deere equipment all updated within last 5-7 years. Maintenance facility was built and completed in 2000.


The Equipment Manager reports daily to the Superintendent and oversees a comprehensive preventative maintenance program and repairs to all golf course equipment. This position will assist in training employees on equipment, conduct safety meetings and play a large role in planning/construction of new wash bay. The candidate will also provide recommendations for purchase/lease capital equipment.


Individual must have 3 years of experience in maintenance and repair of golf course equipment. Must provide a set of tools and possess the ability to lift 50 pounds. Candidate will display good communication skills and ability to work well with others.

Grounds Equipment Mechanic

(or a combination of education, training and/or experience which provides an equivalent). A current, valid Washington State Driver’s License.

Desired Qualifications:

Prior golf mechanic experience with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to work under pressure while prioritizing tasks and effectively communicating with Golf Course Superintendent. Good judgment and problem solving skills. Reliable with good attendance. A self-starter with the ability to handle a variety of tasks and assignments in a fast-paced environment.

Position Details

This is a Sales Representative role integrated with product delivery, and includes inside sales, outside sales, cold calling, retail garden center consumer interaction, assessing store inventory needs, promoting new products, wholesale direct sales to industry professionals, developing new markets, delivering product as needed, etc. This also includes some weekend work, trainings, trade shows, exhibits, etc.

Product delivery makes this position quite physical at times. Deliveries vary from the company pickup truck to our 20' box truck. The ability to handle 20# to 50# bags and boxes is essential. Deliveries of our 2000# pallets require the ability to handle them with a pallet jack, both manual and electric. The physical ability to lift and move this kind of inventory is essential. Experience driving larger trucks is also important, as you will need to be comfortable driving our box truck, backing it up to loading docks, and maneuvering in traffic.

Position Requirements

A background in the green industry with connections is strongly preferred. This includes experience working with landscaping, golf, grounds management, growers, and/or retail sales. Our current focus is growing our client base and sales in the landscape industry, retail markets, supporting existing client base, and expanding into related markets, including Oregon and California.

Because of our emphasis on education, a background in sales should include the ability to speak/educate comfortably with strangers and in front of groups.

Training and experience in the field of horticulture is strongly advised, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture or similar field, being preferred.

Good driving record, driving ability, and credit history are a must, as you will be driving company vehicles, including the delivery box truck.
