The golf course has several acres of ornamental gardens located throughout the golf course. The ornamental gardens adjacent to the club house are a key feature to enhance the quality of the club house and guest experience. Responsibilities

The Horticulturist position is responsible for ensuring that all the ornamental planters, containers, drop-ins, and seasonal color are maintained in a healthy condition with optimum appearance. The Horticulturist is also responsible for annual budgeting, planning, and ordering annuals for 3 seasons. The scope of responsibilities also includes programming, trouble shooting and maintaining the club house sprinkler system.

Experience/Requirements

The Horticulturist must have knowledge of; plants best suited for PNW climate, planting techniques, soil conditions, plant identification, weed identification, pruning techniques, fertilizer applications, herbicide and fungicide applications, watering and correct moisture content, and pest or disease identification.

The Horticulturist is expected to have a positive attitude, to arrive at work on time every day, and have an excellent work ethic. The Horticulturist is also expected to be self-motivating and have a high-quality attention to detail. During the peak spring and summer seasons, seasonal support staff will be provided to meet watering and weeding demands. The Horticulturist will be expected to manage any seasonal support staff. The golf course will provide all tools necessary to complete tasks.

The Horticulture staff is part of the Turf management team. The position will be 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, during the spring to fall seasons. During the winter season, weekly hours will be reduced to 35 hours per week. During the peak summer season, 5am start times may be necessary to complete hand watering before setup for tournaments.

Point Roberts is an 18-Hole championship golf course designed by Wayne Carleton that is now under the direction of a new Ownership group. In 2003, Point Roberts was ranked the 8th Best New Public Course in the USA by Golf Digest Magazine and over the next year the Owners are going to restore and revitalize the course. Point Roberts is known for its classic design, aesthetic value and dry conditions, set in a mature forested setting. Point Roberts, Washington is a scenic coastal community located on a peninsula of land 30 min from Vancouver, BC and 40 minutes from Bellingham, WA.

Overview

We are looking for a dedicated golf course superintendent to help restore and revitalize our award winning course and join our team at Point Roberts immediately. As the Golf Course Superintendent you will be entrusted with the maintenance, operations and management of a golf course and staff. You will carefully manage the maintenance inputs for the golf course while conserving and protecting natural resources and environmental areas. The Superintendent will be responsible to oversee and direct the maintenance staff and mechanic, including hiring, training, safety and terminations.

The golf course superintendent will work with the Owner and Management Team and report directly to the General Manager. In all instances, the golf course superintendent will coordinate operations with the General Manager and work closely in maintenance planning and budgeting.
